Job Title: Monson Arts Gallery Attendant Part- Time

Wage/Salary: $16.00

 

Monson Arts is a residency and workshop program in Monson, Maine.  An initiative of Maine’s Libra Foundation, Monson Arts began programming in 2018. It was started as a way to spur economic development in Piscataquis County.  Monson, the last town before the 100 Mile Wilderness on the Appalachian Trail, was the home of photographer Berenice Abbott, painter Carl Sprinchorn, and was a center for slate quarrying and furniture making.

Monson Arts’ mission is to provide time and space for creative work.  This is done through a combination of residencies, workshops, education programs for schools and the community, gallery exhibitions, and new initiatives. The Gallery Attendant position is responsible for supporting Gallery Exhibition needs, ensuring visitors interact with the art works safely and being an ambassador for Monson Arts. 

This role is an in-person part-time seasonal (June 12 – Sep 13th) position (5-10hr). The Gallery Attendant reports to the Director and works closely with other staff including the Gallery Store Manager, and support staff.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Open and close the Monson Arts Gallery at designated times (scheduled shifts will correspond to gallery store hours).
  • Remain onsite during gallery hours to receive visitors and give information about the current exhibit as well as Monson Arts’ programming in general. 
  • Computer work, including but not limited to; Checking emails to answer inquires, spreadsheets (Logging Art inventory), Recording the number of guests each day. 
  • Ensure that the public safely views/interacts with exhibited artworks.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the space during each shift. including but not limited to; Sweeping entrance way, mopping, washing windows with the occasional use of a ladder.
  • Work with Director, Studio Tech, and hired curators to assist with installation/deinstallation of exhibited artworks and shows
  • Train for sales with the Gallery Art Store to fill in as needed. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Familiar with basic tools, including but not limited to, paint brushes, hammers, drills. 
  • Ability to multitask 
  • Familiar with Google Suite
