It was a rainy and foggy day in Monson yesterday, It was a rainy and foggy day in Monson yesterday, but it didn't seem to dampen the spirits of our high school students. In fact, it may have contributed to the perfect mood for creating.
We welcomed our final fall cohort to Monson, and t We welcomed our final fall cohort to Monson, and the rain cleared up just in time for us to get a photo with the beautiful foliage today!

Our last event of illustration week with the @illu Our last event of illustration week with the @illustration_institute was a presentation from Steve Costanza about his book, King of Ragtime, The Story of Scott Joplin. Steve is the author and illustrator of many acclaimed children’s books. He shared with us his process of writing and creating a picture book based on a favorite musician, Scott Joplin, and he even played us some ragtime tunes!
Day three with the @illustration_institute was an Day three with the @illustration_institute was an amazing demonstration of marquetry by Jim Macdonald. No slowing down today! We had our generous and inf No slowing down today! We had our generous and informative tour of the Sheldon Slate mill with John, Johnathon and Garrett sharing what they were in the middle of.  We missed Jim though! Thank you all!
Day two with the @illustration_institute 🖊️ O Day two with the @illustration_institute 🖊️ Our high school students got the incredible opportunity to work with Scott Nash and William Roth! They each shared their process for writing and illustrating. Their passion for art and storytelling was infectious. Our visual arts and writing students worked together to create stories and illustrations after learning about the process. (And collected a few autographs from their teachers).

Day one of @illustration_institute week at Monson Day one of @illustration_institute week at Monson Arts had Lucky Platt reading her story "Imagine a Wolf". After coloring wolf ears each student worked with Lucky and @nancygibsonnash to create unique characters that morphed into eachother.
Studio visits! We saw a wonderful variety of mediu Studio visits! We saw a wonderful variety of mediums and methods from this group yesterday - and Mother Nature has treated us to sunny, warm autumn days so far. We can’t wait to see what else they create in the coming weeks.
We welcomed our high school artists for their firs We welcomed our high school artists for their first day as a Monson Artist! We started the day with ice breaking excercises with Gretchen Berg and split up to get to know eachother in each studio. 

We look forward to seeing what these young artists create this year!
