Our high school students have done incredible work here in Monson throughout the school year. They will have a show at the Monson Arts Gallery next month with an opening reception on May 9, 5 pm - 7 pm. Please join us and support our young visual artists and writers!

We welcomed our second cohort of artists for the Spring Session, yesterday. We finally had a sunny arrival day, and the snow had melted enough to visit the beach on our tour of Monson this morning! Spring has officially sprung in central Maine.

Enjoy a week of playing with ways to transform paper by printing, stitching, and weaving it. You will set wood type letters and numbers to print letterpress patterned papers that will serve as our raw materials. You’ll learn how to prep paper for hand stitching and practice embroidery stitches that work beautifully on paper.

Writing in the Wild is a five-day generative workshop that celebrates the profound effect nature has on the creative process. Numerous studies point to evidence of improved focus, enhanced creativity, and more flexible thinking in people who spend time outside. The woods, waters, and trails in Monson, Maine are the ideal place to experience this connection and produce some wildly powerful new writing!

DREAMSCAPE SOUNDSCAPE: A SOUND DESIGN WORKSHOP with Nic Neves - July 27 – Aug 2 (SALT Session)

In this weeklong sound design workshop, students will transform their dreams into immersive sonic experiences using field recording techniques, Ableton Live, and music composition. The week will begin with documenting and shaping a dream narrative, and refining it for pacing and clarity. From there, students will explore the sonic potential for their dreams, workshopping the kinds of sounds, textures, and music that will make the dreamscape feel most alive.

Intermediate experience: Some audio recording experience and basic understanding of either Pro Tools, Reaper, or an analogous DAW. Music skills are good too, but not required.

This workshop is offered in collaboration with @the_salt_institute

RESIDENT SHOWCASE: VICTORIA SHAHEEN

Victoria is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the search for the modern Utopia, industrial processes, and value systems found in raw materials. She received her BFA from the Corcoran College Of Art + Design in Washington, DC and her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Shaheen has attended residencies in the U.S. and abroad and has exhibited work at galleries including Wasserman Projects in Detroit, John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, WI and Arrowmont School of Crafts in TN. Shaheen currently lives in New Jersey and works in New York City.
