Foreground, Middle Ground, Background: Artist’s Books and the Monson Landscape
July 19 – July 22
Foreground, Middle Ground, Background: Artist’s Books and the Monson Landscape with Rebecca Goodale
Students of all levels are welcome.
We will explore the beauty around us and add to it our imaginations as we design and make star books, flags books, theater books and dioramas. These books will become a suite of keepsakes marking our time together at Monson Arts.
For over twenty years Rebecca Goodale has been creating a series of artist’s books about Maine’s rare plants and animals. Recently she has been revisiting her training as a textile designer by employing that aesthetic and various printmaking techniques to create large scale repeatable patterns. Rebecca has taught Book Arts and Design at the University of Southern Maine, Bowdoin College, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Maine Media. College & Workshops. Her work is in many collections including the Maine Women Writers Collection at UNE, Bowdoin College Library, Herron Art Library at IUPUI, Boston Athenaeum, Yale University, Harvard University, the Smithsonian Museums, the Library of Congress, State Art Museum of Hawai’i; the Children’s Museum in Seoul, Korea; and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
