Mixed Media/ Wood: Michael Stasiuk

July 11 – 16

Connecting to the Figure in Found Objects – Find a personal connection to your materials in order to bring meaning and a new sense of context to otherwise commonplace or discarded objects.  The focus of this workshop is on simple and innovative joinery applicable to wood, metal, and fiber, using found objects.  Most often this means pegging wood to wood, sometimes incorporating common hardware such as screw eyes and springs.  Playfulness is encouraged. Subjects will include, but not be limited to rendering of both human and animal forms.  All levels welcome.

Michael Stasiuk is a multimedia sculptor who lives and maintains a studio in Portsmouth, NH.  His found object sculptures are represented in private and corporate collections including Wellington Management and New England Biolab. He is included in Found Object Art volumes 1 and 2 (Schiffer Books). Michael Stasiuk works with a child-like sensibility fueled by many years of teaching and collaborating with children and adults.  He has been a theatrical prop master for the Mudd Butt Mystery Theatre troupe in Telluride, Colorado for 28 years.  The last 23 have included residencies collaborating with children and adults around the world bringing characters of all sizes to life in a variety of materials. michaelstasiuk.com
