Monson Arts is pleased to partner with Camden Shakespeare Festival and The Center Theatre to present the comedy Aquitania, written and directed by Stephen Legawiec, outdoors in Monson on Saturday, July 24th at 2pm. The performance is a fantastical comedy in which a librarian is transported to a strange country where she matches wits with a bowler-hatted villain. Magic cake and an ancient board game hold the secrets as our heroine adopts a new kind of logic to save the day.  A trio of temptresses add to the enchantment with the score of jazzy pop songs.

“Aquitania will delight adults and older children,” says director Stephen Legawiec, “The play draws inspiration from the legends of Charlemagne, the surrealist paintings of Rene Magritte,  Alice in Wonderland, and other sources. We’re thrilled to bring this production to Monson, complete with live music, with the help and support of the Center Theatre and Monson Arts.” Aquitania has been performed many times around the country and has won accolades from both audiences and critics, with the Los Angeles Times review stating “Aquitania works wonders!”

Attendees should plan to bring blankets or camp chairs to enjoy Aquitania which will be presented outdoors behind Monson Arts’ Tenney House located at 47 Tenney Hill Road in Monson. In the event of rain on the 24th, the performance will take place on Sunday the 25th, still at 2pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.
