Drawing: Michael Moore
July 25 – 30
Drawing Drawings – This is a process-oriented drawing workshop during which the act of drawing is primary. Participants will be drawing most of time, with breaks to see what others in the workshop have done. Everyone will be asked to share with others what they learn from making drawings. Our goal will be to improve through both drawing and observation. Participants will be asked to watch their drawings happen as they actually draw them, bit by bit, dot by dot, mark by mark, line by line, from nothing to something. Drawing is not a random act. Human hands, materials, and the activity of drawing create preferential patterns, designs, compositions, forms, and images. Participants will draw/design with brown or black ink from a variety of sources using a variety of tools on a ground, or surface, of paper or board. Whatever or however we are drawing, the ink will gradually integrate with the ground/surface and begin to reveal an image of some kind, of any kind, as the ink and the ground balance and support one another. When participants see that this visual balance occurs, they will stop drawing and accept what it is they have drawn, however near or far it is from anything they might have imagined in the first place. They andtheir drawings have become equivalent to one another. Seeing the drawings, they see themselves.
